Sociology in the Plural

Four ways of producing, thinking, and communicating sociological knowledge.

A plural space for sociology

Escritos Sociológicos is organized into four sections that represent different ways of producing, thinking, and communicating sociological knowledge.

Each section follows a particular orientation, while all share a commitment to academic rigor, critical reflection, and the sociological understanding of social reality.

01

APPROACHES

Thinking about the social from sociology.

This section is intended for articles and essays that develop a sociological reading, problematization, or interpretation of social phenomena, processes, and problems.

May include

Theoretical and conceptual discussions · critical analyses · reviews of debates · sociological essays · research based on empirical evidence.

Submissions should identify a clear sociological problem or question, develop an original argument, and engage critically with specialized literature. Theoretical contributions should not be limited to a literature review, but should demonstrate the relevance and originality of the proposed discussion.

Suggested length
4,000–8,000 words
02

PRAXIS

Practicing sociology in contact with social reality.

This section is devoted to texts that reflect on the practice of sociology in contexts of research, social intervention, education, community participation, and professional practice.

May include

Field research · social intervention · community participation · action research · teaching · professional practice · methodological development.

Contributions are expected to connect practical experience with a sociological perspective and to develop a critical reflection on the contexts, processes, methodological decisions, learning experiences, or outcomes derived from it.

Suggested structure

Introduction · context · sociological perspective · methodology · critical reflection · results · conclusions · references.

Suggested length
4,000–8,000 words
03

INTERSECTIONS

Crossing fields of knowledge to understand the social.

This section is devoted to works that build a substantive dialogue between sociology and other fields of knowledge in order to analyze social phenomena, processes, and problems.

In dialogue with

Anthropology · philosophy · history · literature · communication · political science · economics · urban studies · art · technology · environmental studies and other related fields.

Interdisciplinarity should form a substantive part of the argument rather than consist merely of the juxtaposition of perspectives. Submissions should demonstrate how the intersection of disciplines makes it possible to formulate new questions, identify tensions, or broaden the understanding of the phenomena under study.

Suggested length
4,000–8,000 words
04

EXPLORATIONS

Exploring other ways of practicing and communicating sociology.

This section is intended for experimental and hybrid proposals that expand conventional forms of producing and communicating sociological knowledge.

Possible formats

Photo narratives · social cartographies · digital ethnographies · data visualizations · visual essays · field narratives · interviews · archives · sociological chronicles · illustrations · audiovisual works · hybrid writing · methodological experiments.

Formal experimentation does not imply less rigor. Proposals should have a recognizable sociological purpose, justify their methodological or formal decisions when appropriate, and observe the principles of rigor, ethics, and academic integrity.

Suggested length
Flexible according to format
1,500–6,000 words for predominantly textual proposals.
